Tiltrotators: Why work hard when you can work smart?

posted by Sunil Newatia on April 4th, 2022
Blood, sweat and tears are not enough anymore. With ever increasing demands to work faster, success and profits are not about working harder, but about smart solutions that get things done more efficiently.

Tiltrotators are becoming more popular, and for good reason. Their ability to tilt and rotate an attachment 360 degrees delivers versatility in a wide range of applications, including grading, excavation, compaction and more.  Tiltrotator has ability to tilt 50 degrees right and left as well as rotating 360 degrees allowing the operator to work in any direction without having to move the machine.

Tiltrotator can help you in rotating the bucket 360 degrees while scooping up soil, carving out precision slopes and placing odd-shaped rocks into hard-to-reach spots. These rotating attachments give operators flexibility and accuracy, save fuel and reduce the time required for common jobs. Tiltrotator couplers are time-savers on all types of jobs. “For example, ditching — you can dig parallel along the excavator. When you dig for cables or pipes in narrow areas, you don’t need to move the machine around the whole time. When you’re backfilling, you can stand in one spot and swivel the bucket to the exact position needed.

• Controls allow for simultaneous tilt, rotation, and machine movement.
• Short height maintains consistent breakout force for digging.
• Hydraulic quick connect changes attachments in seconds.
• Do more work with less attachments and machines.

APPLICATIONS & USES

Civil construction

A simpler path to perfect results. With the tiltrotator's capability to work around, under and over obstructions, you can maximize the utilisation of your excavator and turn it into a multitasking machine.
GRADING
EXCAVATION WORK, ELECTRICAL/WATER & SEWAGE
GOODS HANDLING
WALLCONSTRUCTION • POLE RAISING

Road work

A tiltrotator with the right tools makes work on and close to roads more efficient and safer. With a single excavator you gain optimal flexibility so that you can take on more types of jobs and perform them with improved precision, higher safety and maximum efficiency.
• DIGGING TRENCHES
• GRADING
• CULVERTWORK • PIPELAYING
• POLERAISING
• DIGGINGWELLS
• STRIPPING
Ground work

Boasting is best in moderation, but when it comes to excavation, Tiltrotators’ solutions are almost a revolution. From the beginning of a job to the very end, you have millimetre precision, flexibility and feel that makes work go more efficiently and with better results.
• GRADING
• TERRACING
• CLEARING
• DITCH DIGGING
• DAM CONSTRUCTION
• LANDSCAPING WORK
• STONE PAVING

Water and sewage work

Tiltrotator provides the opportunity to combine several different tasks. To easily and safely switch between different tools and to perform entire jobs without unnecessary movements even in confined spaces.
• TRENCHING
• PIPELAYING
• DIGGING WELLS • RESTORATION

Railways

Power and flexibility in perfect balance. Tiltrotator gives you full freedom of movement, even with machines restrained to railway right of ways. Suddenly, everything is on track.
• LAYING & REPLACING SLEEPERS
• PREPARATION
• GOODSHANDLING
• RAILWORK
• GROUND CLEARING

Maintenance

With Tiltrotator transforming your excavator into a flexible multitasker, you can substantially improve the efficiency of your work, both summer and winter. In addition, you can avoid hazardous or awkward manual aspects of a job since your machine can handle the same tasks faster and safer.
• SWEEPING
• CLEARING
• GOODSHANDLING
• SNOWCLEARANCE

Recycling

The ability to get around, over and under is naturally very useful when it comes to sorting and moving recycling materials. Tiltrotator quickly turns your existing excavator into a machine for these kinds of jobs. The durability and strength of a Tiltrotator equipped machine enables the use of powerful grapples for scrap metal and waste handling.
• SCRAP METAL HANDLING
• WASTE HANDLING
• MATERIAL HANDLING

Demolition

With sorting grapple, the excavator can prepare for full demolition by tearing down selected sections and sorting the debris. It is important these days to sort different materials directly at the demolition site in preparation for recycling and landfill disposal. A tiltrotator with a grapple is an unbeatable combination that can sort materials and clean up once demolition is completed.

Service & support

Quick learning is normal once basics are mastered. Users should be open-minded in their approach to take full advantage of the new working methods available to them. The learning curve is quite quick since the operator soon sees the benefits of having a tiltrotator on the excavator. It can make the work more fun. Once operators try it, they don’t want to go back.

Host excavator will need two-way auxiliary lines with three-position control valves and, ideally, proportional solenoids for smoother tilting and movement.

If the excavator is to be used for rock breaking or performing some stressful task it might be best to remove the tilt coupler
